How to Use Poshmark to Shop & Save!

If you don’t know by now, I love shopping on Poshmark. (I call it Posh for short). It is my all time favorite App when it comes to shopping. If I’m being honest, I’d say 75% of my entire wardrobe is from resale or discount stores (like TJ Maxx). The majority of that resale is done through Poshmark. I’ve come to realize that even though I know it’s an amazing app, that not everyone does. So today I’m sharing my top tips on how to use Poshmark to shop your favorite brands and save money!

Shopping on Poshmark

What is Poshmark?

You may be wondering, what is this Posh-mark thing. Poshmark is very similar to eBay in the sense that it’s a re-Sale marketplace. Unlike eBay, it started as a mobile app and is used mostly for clothes and accessories. While Posh started as an app, it has moved to be browser friendly too, so you can shop on your computer if you wish. Because it started as an app though, the app looks and is much easier to use than the browser version (in my opinion). In order to shop, sell, or make a purchase you do need to create an account. But don’t worry, the App and an account is 100% free. Both for buying and selling. No hidden extra commission fees, no hidden buyer fees. They only have a single 15% rate that they take from sales made through the app. Again this is at no extra fee to you, just taken out of the sale. Just another reason why I love it.

How to use Poshmark

With just a few easy steps you can be using Poshmark. I recommend using the app so these instructions will be for using the app instead of the browser.  If you would like more information on how to use the browser version, feel free to contact me!

  1. Download the Poshmark App in your phones App Store. Simply search for “Poshmark” or if you’re viewing this post on a mobile device, click here!
  2. Once the app has downloaded, open it. You will be prompted to create an account. If you have an invite code, add it as well to receive free Posh credits! (Use my invite code DandyDanielle for a free $10!)
  3. Once you’ve created an account you can start shopping all your favorite brands and items! It’s that easy. For tips on finding the best items and deals keep reading!

Tips for Using Poshmark

You’ve set up an account and hopefully you have free credit to start spending! There is just so much stuff on Poshmark it can be overwhelming. Here are a few tips to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

Narrow by Size

This is the fastest and easiest way to filter your results. When you created your account you hopefully filled out the information for your size. This helps the app automatically narrow your results so that items will fit you. In general this filter works very well without any action on your part. However sometimes it needs a little help. This can be done by choosing a category and then choosing specific sizes within that category.

Poshmark

Narrow by Brand

Easily the best filter on Poshmark. Simply type in your favorite brand (Like Kate Spade, Lilly Pulitzer, Vera Bradley, etc.) or view the entire list of brands within the app. You can even narrow the category within that brand. So if you’re looking for a Kate Spade dress, you don’t have to scroll through a ton of purses to find it. If you don’t see a brand you like in the list, type it in! Poshmark doesn’t recognize every single brand out there and sellers typically include the brand in the item description.

Offer Button

One of the best tools in Poshmark is the offer tool. Both sellers and buyers can use the offer tool. I love this because you can try and get an item for a price that fits your budget. This isn’t to say every seller will accept an offer, but there’s no hurt in trying. As a seller you can also offer a price to users who have liked an item. This is a great way to make a sale and earn money!

eBay VS. Poshmark

Because eBay is so similar to Poshmark you may be wondering why even bother downloading the app. It’s honestly a matter of preference. I think eBay is a great resale place, but I find the filters hard to use. When it comes to clothing, I think more people sell on Poshmark. If you’re really in search of a specific item I would recommend using both eBay and Poshmark to find the best deal but ultimately, I’ve made far more purchases on Posh. It’s easy, intuitive, and offers more variety of items.

Selling on Poshmark

Besides shopping for great deals on Poshmark, it is also great for selling. If you are trying to clean out your closet and make some extra cash from it this is a great way to do it. It’s easy to start selling and doesn’t cost anything for you to do it. The only “fee” that Poshmark takes out is once you make a sale, and then it just subtracts from your earning. This differs from eBay that charges fees for postings, shipping cost, and other hidden fees. Just like shopping on Posh, selling is easy and user friendly. You’ll receive your earnings once the purchaser confirms the item was received in the described condition. You can then have these earnings deposited or use them as Poshmark Credits if you make a purchase through Posh.

My Favorite Poshmark Buys

Like I said, a vast majority of my current wardrobe is from Posh. I’ve bought a ton of Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, J. Crew and more using this app. So much so that there’s probably at least one item per post that I’ve bought off Poshmark. I wanted to just give you a little sneak peak at what I’ve gotten and what you can get too. My Posh closet has a ton of Lilly Pulitzer in various sizes right now as well.
