Parisian Style

The newest season of Emily in Paris has premiered and it has me thinking all about Parisian style. Not that I would say Emily has a lot of what I would consider Parisian style (much more designer style). However, it reminds me that by definition Parisian style relies on timeless pieces that you can wear year in and year out. (With maybe the exception of a beret). Maybe I just have beef with Emily this year, but I want to bring simple, classic styles back into the world.

Hopefully this goes without saying but I’ll say it anyways, I am not an expert on actual Parisian fashion. I’ve never been to Paris, let alone France or even Europe, in my life. This is simply how I think I’d dress if I was visiting Paris or anywhere in France. So if you’re from Paris and you think no one would ever wear these outfits there, I totally understand. (And I’d be more than willing to stick out like the sore thumb American that I am if I wore these there).

Definition of Parisian Style

According to Laflore Paris “The Parisian style is a combination of elegance and grace; simplicity and comfort. Parisians believe that you can have great personal style even when wearing normal, every day clothes.”

Another definition from French Style is “Parisian style is effortless comfort. It’s all about light fabrics, simple combinations, and elegant yet simple choices that perfectly encapsulate the vibe of Paris.”

While I certainly don’t live by simplicity and comfort in every single one of my outfits, it’s something that I’ve been drawn to over the fall and winter months. To me, a skirt or dress is effortless. Pairing a simple yet interesting sweater or blouse with a skirt is how I’d live out these definitions. For others it may be jeans that are effortless and comfortable. Bottom line though, Emily in Paris does not emulate simplicity in any of her outfits.
