Dark Academia Outfit Aesthetic

Can I be honest? I’ve probably shifted around my scheduled post for today about a dozen times. And probably half a dozen times just in the past week. First, I wasn’t really feeling my original scheduled post. Than I had someone reach out to me about a guest post that I thought could easily replace this weekend. Then the weather didn’t cooperate. And the list goes on…Long story short, this is why I shouldn’t plan. However, all these post changes led me to today’s post of dark academia. Or as I like to call it, preppy fall fashion.

What is Dark Academia?

Quite honestly, I think dark academia is just Gen Z’s take on classic fashion. It’s a lot of plaid, chunky sweaters, and chunky shoes. At least, that’s kind of my take on it. So clearly being the little preppy addict that I am (even though I probably lean a little more trendy than classic with my style) I’ve loved every second of this trend. To read more on how dark academia came to be and what the whole fad is about you can click here. I seriously love the classic school girl and old oxford vibes. It’s almost equestrian in a certain way. And I certainly think the looks are timeless…no matter what fad name it get’s next.

Creating Fall Vibes

As much as I love dark academia, I’ve struggled a bit to incorporate into my own wardrobe. For the mere fact that I live in Florida. Buying chunky sweaters just isn’t very practical if I only get to wear it one day out of the year. But I figured this trend isn’t only about chunky sweaters. So I took to Pinterest (& maybe even TikTok) to search for some inspiration. Needless to say, I found some. To top it off, I of course needed a photoshoot with some books. What more could be more fall (well the weather could…)
