With the start of Spring, we’re coming to the end of the line on tax season. How do you do your taxes? If you’re like me, you started your taxes almost immediately after the New Year…and then forgot about them until, well, now. I won’t try and convince anyone that doing your taxes is fun (or that having them done for you is fun) because frankly, it’s not. But, there are ways to make doing your taxes a little bit more enjoyable. Today I’m sharing my tips on how to enjoy doing your taxes (and maybe that’ll help you get the most from them too).
4 Tips to Help you Enjoy Doing Your Taxes
1. Make Taxes Your Only Thing to Do That Day
What is it exactly that makes doing your taxes so miserable? For me, it’s the fact that I could be doing something else. Anything else! I want to be out of the house, not worrying about numbers or debt. When you mark out an entire day just for taxes, it makes it seem a little less like a chore. Then, when you finish early, it’s a huge win and you can go and #TreatYoSelf
2. Have All Your Documents Ready
This will help you finish your taxes in a timely manner. Better to spend a half hour gathering up all your paperwork and forms then getting up every 5 minutes to find them. I’m fortunately still young and only have a couple of documents that I need to round up. Finding where I put them after my first attempt at taxes is another story…
I can hardly imagine what it must be like for my parents though, having 5 kids must really add to that paperwork stack.
3. Have Snacks and Coffee on Hand
A grumbling tummy? Droopy eyes? Not things that make you want to finish up your taxes. They will make you want to walk away and forget about them all together. Avoid this by having a nice hot pot of coffee brewed and snacks laid out for yourself. Your hangry, sleepy, tax annoyed self will thank you.
4. Make a Killer Playlist
I have a playlist for working out, so why shouldn’t I have one for doing my taxes? It doesn’t matter if it’s Youtube or another music streaming source, you’ll want a playlist to help get you through the day. Don’t even think about touching that remote and turning on Netflix, we all want the maximum tax return and you just won’t get that if you’re half distracted by the television. Just put in those headphones and remember what Brittany said, “You better work bitch”.

Love this! Very creative.
I was all set to do my taxes early this year. I started them in January like you mentioned, and then once I realized how many things I had to write off…I got up and never came back to it! 😛 I have all the papers in one pile, so your article has inspired me to set aside time to finish and make this fun!
