In my recent post about another Lilly Pulitzer outfit I mentioned how difficult it can be to find things to wear your Lilly with. If you have a pair of printed shorts, or a bright printed top, it can be hard to put together a complete outfit. You run the danger of looking too fun if you mix Lilly patterns (I’m talking looking like a clown). This was a problem I had not only with shorts, but also a lot of tops. In particular, the Lilly Pulitzer dusk top. I love that they are a light silk, but all my dusk tops are printed, which means I can’t wear them with my Lilly shorts. So what’s the solution? Solid shorts or pants.

Lilly Pulitzer Dusk Top with Jeans
I don’t typically wear jeans, especially in summer. However, there were a few select spring days this year that I did sport jeans. Overall I was happy with the turnout and even featured an outfit in my spring jeans post. When it gets to be summer though, forget about jeans & pants. It’s too hot and humid in Florida for anything other than light linen pants in summer.
A Summer Take
Like I said, when it comes to pants in summer you should just forget about it. It’s not going to be comfortable and if it is, it probably doesn’t look good. I’ve struggled for the longest time to find shorts to wear with my Lilly tops, particularly my Lilly Pulitzer dusk tops. This summer is going to be different though. I’ve invested in more solid colored shorts. (Not too many more, but certainly more than I had). I’m not talking denim shorts either. Don’t get me wrong, denim clearly goes with everything. Denim also get’s really hot, really fast though. So I invested in a solid pair of linen shorts. They may be bright pink but luckily, Lilly and pink are a match made in heaven.
