Bring on the beads and the King Cake because Mardi Gras is next week! Unlike last year when Mardi Gras was in March, this year it is on February 25th. Good thing this year is a Leap Year because there has been a lot going on this month! We certainly need that extra day. With Fat Tuesday fast approaching it’s time to pull out all the Mardi Gras colors. New Orleans has been celebrating the Mardi Gras season basically since the new year. So if you think a week long celebration is too much, think again!

Mardi Gras Colors
The one and only time I visited New Orleans was all I needed to completely fall in love with it. From the temperatures, to the architecture, and the history, there’s nothing I don’t love about New Orleans. That’s probably why I’ve latched on to Mardi Gras as much as I have. Every year I seem to learn something new about Mardi Gras that makes me love it even more. This year I looked into the meaning behind the Mardi Gras colors of purple, green and gold. I found that the colors were chosen due to their meaning. Purple stands for Justice. Green stands for faith. And gold stands for power. Very fitting when you remember that Mardi Gras and fat Tuesday coincide.
Wearing the Colors
Sadly I am not going to get to celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I’ll throw my own mini celebration at home next week and be sure to sport the festive colors at work that day. Shockingly I don’t own a lot of green, gold, or purple clothing items. Luckily I did buy a gold skirt around Christmas time and my work shirt is green, so all I needed to find was a little bit of purple. Here’s the outfit I came up with. Mardi Gras & work appropriate.
