In a recent post I broke down the monthly clothing subscriptions of Rent the Runway, and Nuuly. There was a lot covered, but it still didn’t get into all the nitty gritty of what each service provides. Therefore, I wanted to create individual post on each service that way I can cover everything thoroughly.
How Rent the Runway Works
Rent the Runway offers a variety of plans. From 4 items a month with access to a limited inventory, to their most loved plan which is 8 items a month with access to all their inventory. They also offer a plan to rent up to 16 items a month! (That’s basically a whole new wardrobe!) You rent 4 items at a time no matter which plan you are on. If you want more than 4 items at home at a time you will pay an extra fee. This is important to point out because if the timing doesn’t work out and you may end up only renting 4 items a month even on the larger plans.
When you are done with your 4 items you can return them and swap them out. You can choose to return all 4 or just certain items. However, if you choose to keep an item at home you can only swap how many you returned. The really nice thing is that once you let them know you will be returning items, a spot immediately opens up. Which means they don’t have to physically have your return in order for them to send you new items. (But they will gently remind you if you don’t send your return out soon enough!)
Rent the Runway Breakdown
Price
- Price: Plans start at $89 a month for 4 items. (Then $135, $174, and $199 a month).
- Plan I Picked: I went with the most loved plan which offers 8 items for $135 a month (But $99 for the first two months with this link).
- Why I Picked This Plan: While 4 items would have been plenty, that plan does not give you full closet access. Which means there are items that are not included and you have to rent for an extra fee. Which is why I went with 8 items a month.
What They Offer
Rent the Runway offers over 700 designers to choose from. That includes dresses, blouses, pants, shorts, skirts, accessories and bags. When you sign up for a subscription you can order 4 items at a time (no matter which plan you’re on). Your subscription includes shipping & returns, cleaning, and rental insurance all in the price. So you don’t need to worry about cleaning, paying for shipping, or if something tears.
