2021 Spring Fashion Trends

It’s that time of year again where the clocks change and the birds chirp. The official first day of spring is this weekend and I can’t wait for warmer mornings and blistering hot afternoons. To kick start spring in the year 2021 (2020 is over y’all) I wanted to share some of my favorite fashion trends of the season. Granted, many of the spring fashion trends from 2020 are rolling over into 2021. I guess that happens when a pandemic hits. (But we won’t know for sure until the next pandemic? I’m just kidding, I hope we never live through another one). The good news is, the fashion world is great at coming up with synonyms so some of these trends have a different name from last year.

My Favorite Spring Fashion Trends of 2021

1. Exaggerated Sleeves (AKA Puff Sleeves)

I love a good understated statement and that’s exactly what puff sleeves are. But for Spring 2021 the fashion world is calling this trend an “exaggerated sleeve”. Which is all fine and dandy so long as the puff shoulder stays. A common misconception about puff sleeves is that they have to be over exaggerated which is not the case. A puff sleeve can be small and almost non existent. That’s one of the reasons I love them so much because there’s a large range of exaggerated sleeves out there. Whether it’s a small ruched puff sleeve, or a puff sleeve that covers your entire face, there’s a variation that works for everyone. Last season I was just starting to explore the puff sleeve so I went with pieces that we much more subtle (like this ditsy floral dress). However, this year I’m living the “go big or go home” game. My favorite over the top puff sleeve this year is on this yellow dress from Target.

2. Pastel Colors

Another trend making a comeback year after year are pastels. Pastels are perfect for spring because we’re still coming out of a winter haze/hibernation. They make it easy to ease your way into bright colors for late spring and summer. Target currently has some great pastels (like that yellow dress again!) But I’d also check out your favorite local boutiques and small businesses to find some pastel gems as well.

3. Spring Florals

Is floral ever not in for spring? Why would we not want to match the nature around us that’s blooming? This year I’ve noticed a slight shift in florals. Ditsy florals are still raging but the main colors are in blues and greens. Typically there will be some pinks, and purples as well but this year has seemed to choose cool tones over warm. Not to say that warm florals aren’t equally as perfect, but blue has taken over my feed this spring more than last.

Other Note Worthy Spring 2021 Fashion Trends

I couldn’t finish this post without mentioning my other favorite spring trends. While a pastel floral puff sleeve dress would be amazing, there’s more trends to be on the lookout for. Particularly, if you seen a gingham maxi dress, you should snag it up. Not only are midi & maxi dresses great transitional pieces for spring, but gingham is a tried and true print throughout all seasons.
