As Thanksgiving has come and passed, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on all the things I am thankful for this year.
For the past 6 months I have kept a One Line a Day Journal. A dear friend gifted it to me on my birthday this year. While I haven’t kept up with it nearly as much as I would have liked, there are some things that I wrote that remind me of the things I am truly thankful for in this whirlwind of a year. Before I share a few of those things I just want to say that keeping a one line a day journal has been extremely liberating and I recommend it for everyone. It only takes a minute to write something memorable from the day and fill a journal full of priceless memories.
One Line a Day 2018
JULY 11 // Summer is a Time to Enjoy the Outdoors with Friends and Family
Often times we forget how wonderful the summer really is, especially as a working adult. There are no summer vacations, breaks from school work, and all that jazz that come with summer as a child. I wanted to remind myself that you can enjoy your summer if you just make it a priority. This was a reflection I had after celebrating the 4th of July with my family, and wanting to extend that feeling throughout the summer. I am so thankful for the heat of summertime, and being able to enjoy it with my friends, and my family.
JULY 13 // Disney Really is the Happiest Place on Earth and Can Make a Bad Day Great!
I actually remember this day so vividly. I had finished one hell of a week at work (what else is new?) In order to transport myself from all that, I spent the majority of my weekend at Disney World. That Monday I went into work thinking of how Disney can really turn my world upside down and make me love life again! I’m thankful that I splurged on an annual pass to Disney (and that I had some help along the way), because I know if I ever need a pick me up, it’s right there waiting for me. I’m also thankful for that moment because it showed me that life should not be about living for the weekends.
JULY 25 // Rejoice and Remember the Little Things (and Little People) in Your Life.
July 25th is an important day for my family. It is my youngest sisters birthday. Like all siblings know, we don’t always get along. And as many siblings who are 10+ years older than any of their other siblings know, sometimes you end up being more of a parent than a big sister. It is still so important to remember that the little things add up to big things in the long run. Family is one of those little and big things that we can’t take for granted and should remember everyday to be thankful for.
JULY 28 // Even an ill Nights Sleep is Made Better Waking Up Next to You
You know when you become so comfortable with someone, that you don’t realize how lucky you are to have them? We probably all go through this every single day. For me, it hits me at the end of the day, when I recognize how lucky I am to have someone in my life that cares so much about me and my happiness. This realization is amplified when I wake up in the morning and see that beautiful human laying next to me.
JULY 29 // How Much More there is to Look Forward To When You Make Coffee Plans
This is something I wrote over 3 months ago and still rings true today, and will forever. I am always so motivated on days that I’ve made coffee or brunch plans with a friend. Even in hard times when we might be getting together to vent, I am energized and ready to take on the day! Maybe it’s my body preparing for that caffeine, maybe it’s my brain knowing how amazing this person is, maybe it’s both and more! The promise of coffee and friends is enough for me to have an amazing day and something I am truly thankful for.
AUGUST 4 // All that Glitters is Not Gold, the Open Ocean Just Reflects the Sparkling Sun
I’m sure we’ve all heard that first part before, “all that glitters is not gold”. What does that have to do with being thankful though? Well for starters, I was on a cruise when I wrote it, obviously grateful for that. But I also think it is a good reminder to stay humble and thankful for things as simple as the ocean reflecting the sun. It’s a fresh start everyday with a sparkling persona that can lead to an amazing day.
As you can see, most of my time using my One Line a Day book was over the summer (oops). I plan on picking it up again more often now because it is very interesting going back and reading all the thoughts I’ve had over a span of time. I am so thankful for so much this Thanksgiving and holiday season. Even though things don’t always go the way I have planned, that doesn’t mean I should forget all the amazing things I have. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is excited for the upcoming Holiday season!
