Back to School Clothes Shopping

The tax free holiday for Florida kicks off this weekend which means school is almost here. I’ve done just about every school & academic related summer round up this summer except for back to school clothes shopping. I did a college dorm essentials round up, a dorm room inspo round up, even a preppy girls school supplies round up. Does it show that I might miss school a little bit? I just can’t help that I want to vicariously live another life sometimes through the interwebs. Most of those times it includes shopping. Which is why I’ve decided to do another round up on back to school clothes shopping. In all seriousness though, I will be buying a lot of these items during the tax free holiday going on right now.

Back to School Clothes Shopping

There are a ton of clothing staples that you need not just in school, but throughout your entire life. You’re never too young or too old to start adding these clothing pieces into your life. Tax free weekend is the perfect weekend for everyone to do some back to school clothes shopping, especially for these clothing essentials. Clothing items up to $60 will be tax exempt during this holiday. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for some affordable fashion finds!

Jeans

This is a no brainer. No matter where you live, yes even in South Florida, you will want a nice pair of jeans. When I say “nice” I don’t mean jeans that fit great and have rips & holes all over because that’s what’s “in style”. A nice pair of jeans fit great and are a professional neutral color. Jeans are an item that can be pricey, but they don’t have to be. My favorite brand for jeans are Levi’s, but I’m also a sucker for a $10 pair of H&M jeans. They fit & feel just as great at designer ones.

Tees & T-shirts

I would say that tees & t-shirts are one of my “recent obsessions” but they’re not. They’ve been a lifetime obsession. My late middle school and early high school years may have lacked a lot of fashion sense, but one thing I sure had a lot of were t-shirts. I’m talking bins and boxes full of band t-shirts bought at Hot Topic, scoop neck tees from Old Navy, and of course, every Aeropostale t-shirt the store sold in my size. When I finally re-discovered my sense of style, I was so over tees & t-shirts. But thanks to some time away from them, and since joining a sorority, I’ve found a new love and passion for them. I don’t wear band t-shirts or ones branded with “Aeropostale” across the front anymore, but I sure do love a good graphic tee.

Skirts & Skorts

Don’t ask me why I went through a blah style phase (I’m kind of hoping we all do). Just know that it only lasted 3 years tops. Before that whole ordeal, I was definitely on point with my personal style. I rocked the jean skirt in 7th grade when everyone else wore gym shorts, and I am rocking one again now. Skirts & skorts are really a huge staple in my closet. You don’t need 20 like me, but at least have a jean skirt and maybe another fun one that you can pair those tees with.

Sweaters & Jackets

School temperatures are always ridiculous. It’s like they can’t make up their mind. Either you’re going to school in the Sahara Desert, or you’re waddling with the penguins in Antartica! There is no in between. The worst part is, it totally varies throughout the school so you can visit both climates in one day. Have yourself covered (literally) and bring a jacket with you to save the day. One of my favorite go to is either a quarter zip or a jean jacket.

T-shirt Dress

T-shirt dresses are amazing. You can wear them in the summer, fall, winter, and spring. There’s never a bad time to wear one. Dress it up, dress it down, wear it as a shirt, who cares! I love how versatile the tshirt dress is and not to mention, affordable.

Sneakers & Socks

Who died and made me captain obvious, am I right? Whether you have gym class, are exploring campus, or walk home from school everyday, sneakers are a must. My favorite shoes since 8th grade were Chuck Taylors. I lived in those things. I had 2 or 3 pair that I wore from 8th grade through the end of college. Sadly, I had to throw them away (they were worn to say the least). Since then, I haven’t bought a new pair of chucks because they’re just not the same. They are on my list though, along with getting my hands on every pair of Nikes that I can.

Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are the easiest and simple way to add pizzaz to an outfit! Add a headband for a preppy look. Wear a clip in your hair for a fun trendy outfit. And forget about plain elastic bands, there are so many cute ones with just that little extra that will make it seem like you totally wore that ponytail on purpose (not just because it was a bad hair day).

Watch

Time goes by…so slowly. As I write this, you should know I’ve been looking at the clock all day and thinking “is it lunch time yet?” It’s funny how looking at a clock either makes time slow down or speed up. I’ve experienced both (and prefer the ladder, except on the weekends). Watches are just second nature to me now. Even when I’m not wearing one I’ll look at my wrist. When I’m at Disney wearing my magic band I’ll even go to check the time on it. Watches are especially helpful in school with teachers who have a no phone policy. Sometimes, you just wanna know the time!

Glasses & Case

As all of those who wear glasses know, finding the perfect frames for your face is no easy feat. The way you perceive yourself in glasses can make or break your self confidence (you can read all about my shattered glasses confidence here). You may only have to wear your glasses for certain times of the day and distances, but you should still love the way you look in them. For those of you that wear them 24/4, I’d recommend carrying an extra pair around with you, just in case something happens.
