Best Crab in Daytona Beach – Crab Stop

Do you ever feel hangry for crab (especially when you’re in Florida)? This is the type of hangry that I call, “crabby”. While I could just go to Red Lobster for some delicious crab legs, instead I drive an hour North West (which means I have to take the dreaded I-4) to Daytona. Located just past NASCAR on the International Speedway lies Crab Stop. Crab Stop is a tiny restaurant that looks like it could have been an old iHop or Waffle House. It’s not fancy (I mean, it’s located just off the beach!), it’s certainly not Red Lobster, but it has the best crab I have ever had in my entire life.

Crab Stop (II) Daytona Beach, FL

Crab Stop is one of those places that could easily be on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”. To give you a feel of the atmosphere, the first time I went to Crab Stop I had just come from the beach and ate in my soaking wet bathing suit. If you’re looking for high class bathrooms and fancy cocktails with your crab, this is not your place. If you’re looking for crab that comes drenched in pounds of butter at amazing prices this is your place. I’m convinced the gods of crab work here.

My favorite thing to order on the menu is the Snow Special. The Snow Special comes with 3 crab clusters, 12 jumbo shrimp, a pound of potatoes, and corn on the cob. One snow special can easily feed two people (I’d say even three people but, my boyfriend and I like crab so it works great for just the two of us) and rings in at about $40. I know this may sound like a lot of money for a two person meal but keep in mind a couple things: 1. The amount of food you’re getting and 2. Seafood isn’t cheap! In all honesty, when I order crab at Red Lobster it is never that cheap for that much food (unless it’s crab fest, and even then I’m not satisfied!) All this food is brought out in a giant bowl that has a pool of butter on the bottom and is topped with their house made seasoning (like Old Bay, but better). To top it all off, if the sea of butter at the bottom of the bowl doesn’t satisfy you, they’ll bring you more butter. I mean, I can’t argue with that. At this point it’s time to put on that crab bib and get down and dirty. I don’t just drive an hour for crab for nothing, Crab Stop is the best crab to get not just in Daytona, but Central Florida too.
