I am in desperate need to go to some classy party or art opening. I’ve been able to hold on this far into covid without really letting it get to me but it’s taking a toll now. Every couple of months or so I’d attend an art show, or maybe even a wedding. Now it seems like they are far and few between. (Except for weddings. Please stop inviting me to weddings. I’m burnt out). What I loved about art openings is that they were an excuse to dress up extra fancy (not just my “normal” fancy). in particular I always think back to the Edward Steichen opening where I wore this black cocktail dress. It was a 20’s themed opening and it was just magnificent. Now every time I wear this dress, that’s what I think of. And I just want more art openings to wear it to again.

Even though I’ve attended far too many covid weddings, this black cocktail dress is never one that I wear. I try to avoid wearing black and white to weddings at all cost. It’s not a funeral, but I also don’t want to wear white and upstage the bride. Which means this dress has seen the light of day even less with covid than my other “fancy dresses”. But what better excuse to be fancy than having no excuse at all? Maybe this black cocktail dress will become my new brunch outfit. Who cares if it’s a little extra once I’ve had enough mimosas.

I originally found the Camella dress at Marshalls for around….$80? It was a good price and I fell in love with it when I tried it on. I don’t usually pay so much for a dress, even Lilly Pulitzer, so that speaks to how much I love it. You can find the Camella dress on Ebay in this black as well as a pink/purple combination that is flirty and fun!
