Classic Button Down with a Twist

There is nothing more classic, timeless, or essential in a closet than a button down shirt. Not just any button down shirt, but a white button down shirt. They are versatile and will never go out of style. Whether your style is classic, preppy, edgy, romantic, or trendy, it can be used in all wardrobes. Even with how essential it is, it can sometimes feel a little boring. Especially when it comes to a work wardrobe. Some trends to play up this classic piece throughout the years have been attempted. Statement collars have come and gone (and will inevitably be back). Right now more romantic trends are taking over. So elements like exaggerated collars and puff sleeves are finding their way to make their mark on this classic. Of course, I had to give is a try. Just like I fell in love with statement colors, I’ve fallen in love with this trend too.

Puff Sleeve Button Down

My obsession with puff sleeves has grown during covid times. Maybe it’s the need to keep 6 feet apart but, the bigger the sleeve, the better. When I first saw this top on Nuuly, I knew I had to give it a try. I had been debating trying an exaggerated collar and still haven’t been able to get myself too. (You would think it would be easier since I loved statement collars so much). But a large puff sleeve was something I was working my way up to for a year now. Slowly increasing the size as time went on. Truth be told, when I first tried the shirt on I was horrified. I did not like the way it looked at all. Certainly I could not wear it like the model could with a pair of denim shorts. I tried it a few different ways with no luck. Finally I settled for trying it with a classic work look. That was all it took for me to fall in love with it. The rest is history.
