Little Black Slip Dress

An item that’s been on my wishlist for some time now has been a slip dress. I think they are so elegant and if done right, you won’t look like you’re straight out of a 90’s movie set. (I’m looking at you My Date with the President’s Daughter. A neon pink velvet slip dress, elegant? As if!) Look, I’m not saying there are some good 90’s slip dresses out there. In fact, there’s a ton of great ones. But neon velvet isn’t what I’d call timeless. After trying a slip skirt and loving it, I figured now was the time to finally take the plunge on a slip dress. Needless to say, it did not disappoint!

Jacquard Slip Dress

What I didn’t realize when I rented this dress from Nuuly was that it was actually a jacquard fabric. Meaning that it’s not you typical silky slip dress that has made it’s big comeback. Even though the description of the dress literally says jacquard, it wasn’t until it arrived that I noticed. While I was expecting a more silky dress, I actually think I preferred it to have a little bit of texture. It just added a little extra something to an otherwise classic dress.

Another thing that I liked about this dress is it did have a defined waistline. I think this is atypical for these types of dresses. However, this empire waistline helped me feel like the dress had more structure. While I’m not opposed to structureless, I do prefer some definition in clothing. It may not be a noticeable waistline, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
