Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

When I started this blog I swore I wouldn’t post about Disney World, or any of the theme parks in Orlando. I didn’t want to be a Disney blogger for a couple of reasons,

  1. There are already so many amazing Disney bloggers out there.
  2. Orlando isn’t just about its theme parks. There is so much more to The City Beautiful than these tourist attractions and I really wanted to highlight those.

I’ve come to realize though that Disney is just too big a part of my life to not blog about it. I don’t plan on making every post about Disney World now, but I certainly want to highlight some amazing Disney experiences that don’t happen everyday.

Halloween is probably my favorite holiday ever. I’ll probably say that at least a dozen more times before halloween next week (and it’s very likely that I’ll remind you well into Thanksgiving and Christmas). I love pumpkin everything (not just pumpkin spice), I love dressing up, and I love candy. Halloween is my perfect holiday.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party combines my love for Disney and Halloween in the most magical way. Contrary to popular belief, just because I like halloween does NOT mean I like scary things, like movies or people. Per the name of this Disney event, it is perfect for people like me (and small children, which I might as well be). What’s unique about “party nights” (the select nights that the party runs) is that a regular day ticket won’t grant you access to the party. The party runs from 6 o’ clock to midnight, and if you don’t have party admission you’ll be asked to leave the park. Some people don’t think it’s worth it to buy an extra ticket just for a party night, but I personally think it is 100% worth it and if my boyfriend didn’t stop me I’d buy multiple tickets to it a year.

Special Events & Tips

There are quite a few things that make party nights different from any other night at Magic Kingdom:

    1. Because guest without a party ticket are asked to leave the park it is less crowded than it is during the day. Less crowds means shorter lines on rides, so those rides that were 120 minutes suddenly drop to under an hour, and usually even less than that.
    2. Party nights also have a special show and parade for guest. As a passholder who has seen most shows and parades about a thousand times, it’s a welcome change that really can’t be beat.
    3. One of my favorite things about party nights are the food items that they serve. I’m totally a Disney foodie so this tops my list for the night.
    4. Guest are invited to trick or treat around the park. This was something I didn’t take as much advantage of last year when I attended. This year I made it a point to visit as many trick or treat stations as I could. Who doesn’t love free candy? Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2018 // Trick or Treating at Magic Kingdom
    5. Another thing I didn’t take advantage of last year was dressing up. Disney has strict rules that adults cannot dress up in full Disney Character garb, but this rule is waved on party nights. I struggled a little picking a Disney themed costume but I attempted dressing up as Charlotte La’ Bouff from the Princess and the Frog. Since the movie is set in the 1920’s I thought it was a perfect excuse to wear my birthday dress again. I honestly loved how easy it was to put this costume together and I have some more fairly easy costume ideas too that are just as simple!
    6. Lastly, on party nights there are special characters that you can meet that don’t come out any time of year except for Mickey’s Not So Scary and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas. My personal favorite that I got to see was Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Do be prepared though, you might be waiting in line for a very long time, especially if you get in line early in the night.

For my fellow crazy Disney lovers, let me know if you think Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is worth it. Now back to your regularly scheduled, non-tourist, non-attraction related Florida post (for now).
