Modern Day Palm Royale

The AppleTV show, Palm Royale, has reignited my love for Lilly Pulitzer. I first came to know (and love) Lilly back when I was in college. Being at a school in Virginia, you would think there would be plenty of sorority girls who wore Lilly. Virginia is technically the South after all. However, it wasn’t until my family moved back to Orlando my freshman year of college that I was introduced to Lilly Pulitzer. And it wasn’t until I met my then boyfriend (now husband), Michael, that I started wearing Lilly.

My obsession with Lilly was fanned more when I moved to Orlando myself after graduation. But truth be told, it was a quick flame that did start to fizzle as my style became more refined. Not to say that I ever stopped wearing, or buying, Lilly (especially with the sales, how can one resist?) But I was much more selective in the prints, patterns, and styles that I purchased.

Lilly Pulitzer and Palm Royale

With Palm Royale currently airing new episodes every Wednesday, my passion and love for Lilly Pulitzer has been reignited. Obviously not every outfit in Palm Royale is Lilly Pulitzer. However, the bright colors and patterns are at play in just about every aspect of the show. This fanned flame has made me shop my closet for all the Lilly. I also made a quick day trip down to Palm Beach to live out all my socialite dreams, even if just for the day.

The Rise (And Fall) of the Palm Beach Socialite

While I have been obsessed with Palm Royale, it seems not everyone has the same opinion. About half the reviews I’ve read are not positive, many claiming there is no morale character on the show, and no one that they resonate with. While these reviews are uplifting because maybe there’s not as morally gray characters in the world as I once believed, I’ve also discovered that I am morally gray. Meaning, people vastly underestimate my desire to be a Palm Beach socialite. Really, any socialite. I would gladly trade working 40+ hours a week to lounge by the pool and dress up for parties. And if I’m being honest, if I knew a bounced check wouldn’t get me in trouble, I’d probably do exactly what Maxine does. While the Palm Beach socialite may look a little different now than it does in Palm Royale, there’s a new breed out there. And it is, unfortunately, still not me. Does anyone have a rich aunt that needs caring for? I’m your gal. 😉
