Hopefully the snow will melt and turn into rain for everyone up north soon. Florida has begun it’s “rainy season” which consist of 5 minute storms that come out of nowhere. With how unpredictable these storms can be, I keep a rain coat very handy. While I’ve had a windbreaker/ rain jacket for quite some time, when I moved back down to Florida I knew I’d need to invest in something a little more substantial. In came the rain coat. It’s a trench so it’s long enough to cover most of my dresses and skirts. (Pants are a no no for rain. My ankles always get soaked). Since I knew this was an item I’d be pulling out pretty regularly I wanted to make a statement. What better pattern for a rain coat in spring than blue gingham? (PS: Clearly it was not raining when we took these photos, it was actually quite sunny).

Gingham Rain Coat
If you didn’t know, gingham has become one of my favorite prints over the past couple of years. I would even say it has started to surpass polka dots in my closet. (But not Lilly, I don’t know if anything will ever overcome Lilly). It’s a classic print that will never go out of style. Whether it be spring, summer, or winter, gingham can always be found. And there’s no shortage of color combos that gingham can create. From classic blue and red gingham picnic blankets, to the fall and winter black gingham. They even have a rainbow gingham that is just perfect for springtime. There is a single downside to a printed coat though…
Pattern Mixing
Finding the right patterns to mix together with a printed jacket can be difficult. Lilly Pulitzer is known for her bold and bright patterns. But those patterns don’t exactly “play nice” with others. There’s a few here and there but overall Lilly + gingham jacket don’t fly. With a closet full of pattern I really have to test my pattern mixing on rainy days. But that’s fine, gotta stretch those creative brain muscles sometimes.
