After watching the Met Gala red carpet yesterday I am so inspired! The gowns were stunning. Period. While the theme of the Met Gala wasn’t romantic style, I do think that romantic style fits the gilded age fairly well. The gilded age was a turning point for fashion, as well as many other things. But as fashion is notorious for doing, it pulls from other eras. Fashion never really goes out of style, but cycles and refreshes. Which is exactly how I feel about modern romantic style & dresses. It pulls from the past and showcases it in a new way. The bustle of the gilded age is now a full tutu, and turtlenecks are in their heyday again.

The most notable pull from romantic style I’d say is the prints and patterns used. While these classic prints were cleverly coined as “grandmillennial” recently, they haven’t lost their timelessness on me. I gladly accept all the terms placed on me – old soul, grandmother, and even prude. (I have a thing for long skirts ok. But add that slit all the way up the thigh). Romantic dresses flaunt these prints and patterns. Some of the patterns are old and timeless, while others are new or reinvented. Selkie, for instance, makes romantic dresses with beautiful art prints pulled from paintings. It gives new life to both the paintings and the dresses.

Romantic style has been resurfacing for a few years, and I hope it’s here for the long run. The longer a trend stays in play, the more items I can add to my closet. It also makes it more affordable the longer it stays trending. So really, it’s a win for all. I’m sharing some of my favorite romantic styles and prints below. They range in price so there’s a piece in everyone’s price range.
