If there’s one thing I’ve invested my money into since moving to Florida it would have to be sun hats. Funny enough, I still get some heat from family and friends for wearing them. As a little girl I remember going to church every Sunday and having to wear a sun hat. I hated them. They made me feel like a child (said 6 year old me, a child). Now I’m grown up and I’m sure my mom remembers back in the day when I’d fight against wearing them. I’ve come to love especially large sun hats because they protect my skin even more than just sunscreen. Since I get such joy now from wearing them I wanted to share a few of my favorites as well as talk about the benefits of wearing them.

The Benefits of Wearing a Sun Hat
When I used to live in South Florida as a child I was the perfect shade of tan with bleach blonde hair. After 10 years in Virginia, that is no longer the case. I’ve traded a tan for pale white skin and my hair was even brunette at one point. Since moving back to Florida I have re-established what I call a base tan. Overall however, I’m still extremely white. I burn almost instantly, even with sunscreen. Which is why I’ve come to desperately rely on sun hats. Sunscreen + the shade of a sun hat (the bigger the better) = the more time I can spend in the sun. Not to mention, it’s hard to get sunscreen on your scalp and the hat does an extra great job of keeping that from getting burned too.
My Favorite Sun Hats
Like I said earlier, the bigger the better when it comes to a sun hat. Sadly it’s not always realistic to carry around an 8ft round hat. (Though anything for fashion, am I right?) Here are a few of my favorites available right now, including a few that I personally own.
