Updating my Work Style with Rent the Runway

While I’ve been trying to get better at blurring the lines between my work style and every day style, it can still be difficult. Sometimes a romper isn’t dressy enough for work. Other times, a structured dress is too much to wear to the store. The whole reason I wanted to attempt this blur was so I could utilize my entire closet more often. After a cleanse of my current closet, I’ve been having an easier time wearing more every day stuff to work. But it’s still been hard to wear work styles in every day situations. In comes Rent the Runway. Not only does Rent the Runway allow me to rent work pieces that I know I don’t want to keep forever, but they also give me access to inspiration on how to wear work style everyday. Here’s some items I rented this month and how I wore them to work and on the town.

Work Style Looks with RTR

I ended up renting 4 pieces this month from Rent the Runway that worked great for work. A dress, a blazer, pants, and a purse. Here’s an in depth look at each item and how I styled them for a work day.

CAARA Fritz Dress

I didn’t intend for this dress to end up as a work dress. Instead, I originally rented it in hopes of it being a potential wedding rehearsal dress. After trying it on though, it quickly became apparent this was not it. However, it made a wonderful work dress. It has structure, shows some leg, and isn’t too “in your face” for work. I actually got a compliment on it from my boss who I then told all about Rent the Runway too. I doubt he really cared, but I always love compliments on my clothes.

Kate Spade Margaux Satchel

Y’all, I LOVE Kate Spade. I’ve had my eye on the Margaux actually for some time, but I don’t use many medium purses anymore. (I take a bookbag to work and opt for smaller handbags everyday). Renting this bag has been an absolute dream. It really is the perfect size bag for everyday, including work. It may not fit my large planner in it, but it fits smaller notebooks making it a great size for work. I’m also in love with the color. It’s the perfect pop of color to a neutral work outfit and a great addition to my every day wardrobe.

Trina Turk Kait Pants

Since I don’t love pants I decided to rent a pair to see if I liked them enough to rethink my strategy. In an underwhelming turn of events, I’m still not sold. Though I did like the off white color of these pants and that they paired well with most everything in my closet. I still don’t think I’ll be investing in pants over $50 anytime soon. (Thank you Old Navy).

Rebecca Taylor Scalloped Suiting Blazer

I love a good blazer. They add the perfect amount of polish to any outfit. However, over the years I’ve learned that the quality of a blazer is super important. Which often means paying a pretty penny for the right one. I’ve gotten rid of most of my cheap blazers and haven’t invested in many new ones. So I was happy to try out this blazer with cute scalloped detailing. I loved wearing it to work but also out with some jeans.
