Wedding Dress Fitting Essentials

My final wedding dress fitting is next week. I can hardly believe how fast time has gone and that I’ve already had two wedding dress fittings. I’ve learned that each fitting serves a different purpose. As such, bringing everything you’ll bring on your wedding day isn’t necessary for each appointment. Because of this, I wanted to go through each stage of wedding dress fitting and list what to bring to your different appointments. Not everyone will have their appointments run the same way, but it’s a good place to start that I personally didn’t have at first.

Thread & Needle Alterations

My bridal shop, One & Only Bridal, referred me to Thread & Needle alterations in Winter Park for my fittings. While there were some bumps in the road with scheduling, everything has worked out thus far.

Thread & Needle does 3 fittings, and will schedule more if necessary. The first fitting is to make sure the dress fits your figure perfectly. The second will make any final fit changes and will also be for the length and bustle. I haven’t had the final fitting yet, but I’m assuming it’s to see all the changes come together and make sure no other alterations are needed. It’s very likely that I’ll need a few more changes at my final fitting since my dress had to be taken in over 3 inches. (I’ve learned the general rule of thumb is 2 inches or less being taken in). Because of this, my journey may be different from others.

What to Bring to Your Wedding Dress Fitting

  • Wedding Undergarments – Whatever you plan to wear under your dress you should bring to every fitting.
  • Wedding Shoes – I brought my shoes to every fitting so that I could start to see the look come together.
  • Accessories – While you might not need jewelry for your first or second fitting, I highly recommend bringing it to at least the final fitting to see it all together.
  • Tissues – Thus far I’ve been able to hold it together, but my final fitting may be what pushes me over the edge. After all, it’ll be less than 30 days away!
