Wedding Rings for the Traditional Bride

My wedding band has finally come in, so now is the perfect time to share my wedding rings. Something I’ve noticed while shopping for a wedding band is that, a lot of traditional aspects are starting to fade away. Particularly when it comes to the metal color. To me, yellow gold is the traditional color for wedding rings. But even Michael noticed that there’s hardly any yellow gold sold in stores. In fact, he told me he had to special order my engagement ring because it wasn’t in yellow gold. When we went back to pick out my wedding band we had to do the same thing. It seems nowadays, white gold or platinum are the most popular wedding ring color. I’m a firm believer everyone should have a ring perfect for them. So just because I like more traditional wedding rings, doesn’t mean that you have to choose that. In fact, Michael went with a two toned white and rose gold ring. I refused to let him be talked into a matching band just for the sake of matching. We match enough on a daily basis, I wanted him to love his wedding ring, not just choose it because it looked good with mine. All of our rings were purchased from IDC (shoutout to Delia!) and we couldn’t be happier.

Traditional Aspects of Wedding Rings

Yellow Gold – When I think of a traditional band I automatically think of yellow gold. Probably because I grew up seeing my family wear yellow gold bands. I remember when things started to shift and white gold and platinum took over being more popular. I was already a teen and had made up my mind that yellow gold was the way to go. With the change to white gold and platinum being more recent, I firmly believe yellow gold is the traditional wedding band color.

Round Diamond – I’d even go so far to say that a round, solitaire, diamond is the most traditional engagement and wedding ring. I did not grow up around round diamonds at all. In fact, my moms ring set features a marquise diamond with a ruby accent. While I could point out her ring anywhere, it’s not at all what I consider traditional. While my engagement ring does have a round diamond, it is not solitaire, therefore not the most traditional but still fairly traditional.

Single Color Accents – White a solitaire diamond is the most traditional, I love accent stones in a ring. Like mentioned above, my moms wedding set features diamonds and a ruby. When it comes to being traditional, keeping the stones all the same color is the way to go. My engagement band features accent diamonds along the band and gallery of the ring. My wedding band also has diamonds along the band with a scroll design along the side.
