Well y’all, I had this post queued before all these “recent events”. Because of this the location I was going to shoot this outfit at has closed. Honestly, most things have closed. I debated even posting this, who would be going to an art show right now anyways? But I decided to still do it, even if these outfit pictures were taken in my house. I even debated staging an “art show” at my house. In an attempt to be honest and real with you all though I didn’t do that either. I won’t deny what is happening all around me, but I certainly do not want to post about it either. I hope this post can serve as something to look forward to in the near future, even if we can’t partake in art shows right now.
I’ve recently found myself in this situation: I’m going to an art show and have no clue what to wear. Honestly, it’s a pretty funny situation because I’ve gone to so many shows, including my own, and I still never know what to wear. The internet is flooded with different opinions. Do dress up, art is classy! Don’t dress up, you’ll look like you don’t know anything about art. I’m here to throw my opinion into the mix because, why not.

Who Knows What to Wear to an Art Show?
I’ll tell you right now, (even if I’m biased), I consider myself slightly more qualified to know what to wear to an art show than someone who’s never been to one, or been featured in one. The reason I say I’m biased is because I have a tendency to dress nice all the time. Which to some means I’m over dressed. However, an art show (especially opening night) is an occasion that I believe you should over dress for. It doesn’t matter if they’re handing out free food or drinks, you should respect the artist.
The only time I can think of not being a little fancy at an art opening is if the artist is known to be extremely casual. What it comes down to is, dress for the artist. As far as the opening shows that I’ve attended go, the artist typically dresses pretty well. That is, when the artist is alive at the show. When they’re not, I lean towards dressy because they’re probably from an era that was always dressed up anyway.
What I Wore
The most recent show that I attended I tried a mix of casual and dressy by wearing this lace tiki romper from Lilly Pulitzer. I thought it was the perfect way to attend without wearing a full on gown (which I honestly was considering). Considering the artist was wearing a powder pink suit, I think my outfit was appropriate at the very least. And can I just say, I love a man in pink.
Throw Back to Art School
Another reason I decided to go ahead and keep this post as scheduled is because art is a great way to spend time. Since I’ve been at home a little more lately (and it looks like a lot more coming up) I’ve been throwing it back to my art school days. I got my degree in fine arts with a concentration in photography and a second concentration in watercolor. Since graduating I find myself having less and less time to focus on those things. I got a “big girl job” that is completely unrelated to art.
I started Central Florida Chic as a creative outlet that seemed a bit more practical to keep up with a full time job. (For the record though, it’s gotten harder as time goes on, ha!) So it’s been a real treat to pick up some paint brushes and pencils this week. I wanted to share just a few pieces I’ve been working on so maybe you’ll get inspired too. PS: You in no way shape or form need to have an art degree to explore the world of art and make amazing things!
