A winter fashion trend that always occurs around this time of year is the print, tartan. Tartan makes its appearance in the fashion world around early to mid Fall and doesn’t seem to go anywhere until Spring has peaked its head out of the clouds. I remember when I was first exposed to tartan back in high school and became obsessed with it. Young naive me was easily influenced in high school, and as no one else really cared about tartan (or personal style in general) I walked away from it.
Until one day…
This dress is still the only tartan piece I own (unless you count my Radford sweater…). I remember shopping one black Friday in high school (good ol’ family traditions) and seeing this dress in all its perfect glory. From the sequin trimmed peter pan collar, to the amazing print, and with the holiday season fast approaching, I knew I needed this dress for my own winter trend that year. Truth be told, my family was not a fan of this dress when I first picked it up. A quick trip to the dressing room quickly changed their minds. I loved it years ago and I love it just as much now!
What have I learned from this whole tartan ordeal?
For one I’ve learned, I can’t afford to buy any new clothing in the tartan print. (LOL) At least, I can’t afford the tartan pieces that I really like. And there are so many articles of clothing in tartan right now because of its popularity throughout winter. More importantly I learned that style is all about the individual. This is something I began to learn exponentially once I entered college. I stopped caring so much about what other people thought and just wore what I liked. Not everyone will like your personal style, but that shouldn’t stop you from liking or wearing it. It’s called “personal” style and not “everyones” style for a reason. I’ve learned to buy the clothes I like first and ask for opinions later. Once people see how confident you are with your personal style they won’t even think to tell you anything other than, you look great!
Here’s to expanding my wardrobe to incorporate more tartan. In the mean time, I’ll continue to wear this dress in as many ways possible this winter. Do you want to see this dress style more ways this season?
(Also, peep the new glasses? I’m so in love!)
