As unpleasant as the term peasant dress may be, you’ll see that these dresses are made for more than just peasants. I’d argue that new twist on the peasant dress have become some of the most popular dresses to wear in summer. Dresses like the Hill House Nap Dress for instance feature the same smocked bodice. (And if you didn’t know, the nap dress is very popular this summer). With many people working from home this past year, comfortable dresses have been on the rise. Gone are the day of stiff shift dresses. Flowy and free are the new business wear.

Like I mentioned before, peasant dresses aren’t a drab style. In fact, they’ve become far more classic in the past couple years than most any other dress style. Typically they feature a smocked top which is very comfortable. Along with a non-fitted skirt which also allows for movement and extra comfort.

Peasant Dress from NastyGal
This dress first caught my eye when I was on the hunt for everything sage green. NastyGal was running a sale (as they usually do) and this dress was a great price and exactly what I was looking for. Would I style it with combat boots like the picture? Probably not. But I loved the color and adored the length and shape. The downside to this dress is it’s much thicker than I was thinking it would be. I was expecting a very light cotton, much like many of the other dresses I had bought this summer. Unfortunately it is a much thicker and heavier cotton than I was expecting. While that may be a bit of a downside now, it’ll be a plus come fall and winter. Just thought I’d let y’all know before you buy this dress that it is not a light fabric. But still an overall gorgeous dress. (Who knows, maybe I will pair it with combat boots in fall. Where do you get those?)
