Gingham & Floral Pattern Mixing for Spring

It’s time to brush up on my pattern mixing skills for spring. Typically I mix patterns more in the fall and winter because that’s when I wear the most button up’s. This year however, I’ve decided to venture into more spring pattern mixing. So I pulled together my favorite patterns for spring, gingham & floral. (Florals for spring? Groundbreaking). I was a little skeptical at first, even with the Pinterest inspiration that I found. But the gingham & floral combination turned out pretty nicely and I think it’s great for spring.

Pink Gingham & Floral

At first I was only going to choose one color scheme to take photos of for this post. And it was not the pink color scheme. Even after I first put on this pink gingham top and floral shorts I wasn’t sure it was going to work. But after walking around in it for a bit I was convinced this was a real statement outfit. I say that in the best way because I’m not always a fan of the glances I get with statement outfits. This pattern combination is subtle and bold for spring all at the same time.

Springtime Blues

This is the original outfit I had planned for this post. A much more subtle palm pattern on the bottom with a fun gingham crop. I love how classic and chic it looks with a skirt. I’ll probably wear this combo more in the summer and the pink combo more in the spring. Moral of the story is, don’t be afraid to pattern mix! Have fun with picking different patterns to wear together. An easy tip to start is to keep everything in the same color. Another thing to keep in mind is pattern scale. I find that bigger patterns pair well with small patterns, but you can also go big on big and still look great.
