How to Style Oversized Denim Jackets

Let me start with something disheartening; Why is it that every time someone dies I seem to acquire their denim jackets? It seems like if a relative passes away that is the item I end up with. While I love having something to remember them by, I have so many denim jackets now, and half of them are far oversized. Up until this point, I was just going to leave them hanging in my closet. But I figured, oversized clothing is trendy right now so why not try it out with one of my (many) denim jackets.

I’m not really a baggy clothes person. On the flip side, I wouldn’t say I’m exactly a bodycon person either. When it comes down to it, I want something tailored that looks and feels great. So I’ve been trying hard to find the perfect trendy mix that can incorporate that tailored feel. I ended up going with a denim dress that was form fitting and layering a sweater underneath. (If you can’t tell, I’m trying to wear sweaters more this year. So long as I can avoid wearing it outside for long, it’s bearable). Overall I’m pretty happy with the way this outfit looks. And I love the denim on denim.

You have to be careful when pairing denim together. Certainly we want to avoid Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake’s mistakes. (Brittany was not that bad but Justin…what were you thinking?) This is my classic example of denim gone wrong. Pairing denim together is an art. Too much and you’ll look like a train wreck (or train conductor is more like it). If you’re just starting to mix denims try this helpful tip: Pair different colored denim. That way you don’t become a blue denim blob. Personally, I think this white denim jacket with a blue denim dress paired great together.
