Ways to Style a Winter Cape

I am so glad that I purchased a cape this fall. Without a doubt in my mind, as the days start to (maybe) get a little bit cooler I will be wearing it more and more. That means I need new ways to wear my cape this winter. I may be switching out the jackets I’d typically use in winter for this cape. Goodbye wool coat, hello winter cape.

Replacing Your Coat with a Winter Cape

You would be shocked to know that I actually wear my wool pea coat a lot in winter, even in Florida. Mornings can be chilly, so I’ll typically grab my coat when running out the door. The nice thing about many capes is they’re made of the same material that coats are. Thick wools are very popular in winter for capes and coats alike. So if you’re worried about whether or not a cape will keep you warm, there shouldn’t be an issue. However, I will say this, driving with a cape on can be a little tricky. But if you’re like me, driving in a heavy coat can be tricky too. Driving with both of these is more like “pick your poison”. Personally, I’ve liked driving with my cape more because it acts as a sort of blanket. (And I can even use it for my legs!)

Where to Shop

The good news is, capes seem to be much easier to shop for in the winter than in the fall. I’m not sure why they aren’t pushed more in the fall but it’s quiet sad. As a type A personality, I like to shop for seasons early. That way I’m prepared for anything. Because they are easier to find, more affordable options have presented themselves over the past few months. So if you’re on the fence about investing in another winter coat or a winter cape, I’d implore you try the cape!
