Before we get started, I have not ever been a student at the University of Florida. It was always my dream to be one (and there’s still time if I decide to be a student at UF) but at this point in my life I cannot say I have ever attended the University of Florida as a student. If anyone ever ask me who my college football team is though, it’s the Florida Gators. Favorite Heisman recipient? Tim Tebow (obviously). Honestly, one of my all time favorite people, Tim Tebow (he is bae).
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to visit my boyfriends amazing sister at the University of Florida’s Family Weekend. Even though I’ve been a die hard Gator fan basically since I was born, I have never visited the University before. Now that I have all I can say is, WOW. I may slightly regret not transferring my freshman year but I know everything happens for a reason. This may have been my first visit to the University of Florida but I promise you it is most certainly my last! Check out some of the amazing fun I had this weekend below!
Gators Everywhere
First and foremost, the attention to detail around campus is amazing. I kept being so surprised at it all. I’d just be looking around and taking it all in and then all of a sudden “Oh my gosh look! A gator!”. Or the blue and orange on steps or elevators. Everywhere you looked you could see the amount of University of Florida pride and I totally geeked over it. I can only image what I continue to discover in the details the next time I visit.
Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville
Of course we had to visit the Harn Museum of Art. I was met by the unexpected surprise of paintings by Kehinde Wiley. Kehinde Wiley is the artist who was commissioned to do former President Obamas portrait. While I was already in love with just pictures of his work seeing them in real life was breathtaking. There is so much detail and beauty in these paintings. If you ever get the opportunity to view his work I would. I was also surprised to see a piece by Nick Cave, who has an entire exhibit right now at the Orlando Museum of Art (that I have yet to see, but hope to see soon!) Overall, the Harn Museum was full of fun surprises and I can’t wait to go back and see what new exhibits they have up and coming!
We ended the weekend with a self guided tour of the Ben Hill Griffen Stadium. Sure, that probably isn’t all that exciting for students who have gone to so many games in the stadium, but seeing it so sparse of people is special too. The lack of people created a great environment to grab a quick snapshot without the attempted photobomb of random strangers. Now that I’ve seen it empty and the amazing school spirit of the University of Florida, I can’t wait to (hopefully) go to a football game in the swamp later this season.
(And of course I had to take advantage of the photo op with the gator and Tim Tebow statues!)
