Now that baseball has ended for the 2018 season, it is time for me to shift my attention to other sports (though I could watch this Red Sox season a million times and never get tired of it). While many people at this time of year put all their sports focus into football, I don’t. In all honesty, I really don’t enjoy football. Instead I opt to watch the other b-ball, (because really b-ball can be used to refer to baseball as well) basketball.
Orlando’s basketball team, the Magic, has had its share of greats, such as, Shaquille O’ Neal and Tracy McGrady. Though the Orlando Magic don’t have any titles under their belt yet, they get cut some slack because they are still a relatively young team. Not to mention, I know plenty of Magic fans that say their time is coming soon. I was able to go to this years season opener against the Miami Heat and this is where we reach a bit of a game changer in the story…
I’m a Miami Heat fan
In all honesty, this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as I was born and raised a good portion of my life in South Florida. While I am an Orlando native now, the Magic still aren’t my team, but they do hold a special place in my heart (to be revealed?) Even so, the Miami Heat have a much better track record than the Orlando Magic. What I really looked forward to about opening night was Dwyane Wade. Sadly, the internet tells me this is Wade’s last season. I grew up watching Wade play for the Miami Heat and bring home a few rings (three to be exact) for them. When he left to play for the Chicago Bulls a couple years back I was devastated (like many fans I’m sure), but I understood. I still think Dwyane Wade is vastly underrated and underpaid, but there’s nothing I can do to change that.
The arena that night was filled with just as many, if not more, Heat than Magic fans. To be expected as they are Florida’s two NBA teams. The roar and cheers that erupted when Wade took the court is what this whole opening night was about. I mean, I didn’t wear a Dwyane Wade jersey for nothing. Miraculously, the Orlando Magic pulled out a W against the Heat that game. Equally as astonishing are the teams the Magic have actually managed to beat this season. Who knows, maybe the Orlando Magic will continue to jaw drop its fans throughout this season, even if it doesn’t mean a playoff appearance.

Woohoo – go Magic! That’s cool you grew up watching and cheering on the Heat. Dwyane Wade is a great player, and he’s really grown and matured as the years went on.
I LOVE basketball, and I grew up going to Magic games with my dad. I thought 2009 would be our year when we had our strongest team. BUT, I just watched the Magic vs. Lakers game last night, and like you said many Magic fans think, this year might just be our year…to make the playoffs again. 😛 We’ll see!

Kelly, I was watching that game against the Lakers as well! The Magic sure have something special about them this year!
