Embracing Romantic Style with an Edge

Romantic Style traditionally revolves around “softness, femininity, lush textures, and a hint of vintage-inspired pieces” (Trunk Club). However, a new wave is taking over called Modern Romantic Style which “radiates femininity with an edge” (HGTV). It still pulls from the traditional romantic style by using light fabrics, feminine prints, and vintage silhouettes. But it also adds in an edginess that really makes my punk rock music heart soar. This feminine aesthetic has really taken over my world over the past year and I’m not complaining. I’ve loved every second of it showing up in my feeds on social media. But I never really tried it in my wardrobe. Until now where I’m truly embracing a modern romantic style.

Like all great steps outside my comfort zone, this outfit started with Rent the Runway. There wasn’t a ton of doubt that I’d love this style, but you can never be too sure. Turns out I fell completely head over heels for this dress. (No surprise there!) Like many items that I’ve rented, I wish I could keep them longer. However, I know that some of the pieces I rent are not every day pieces. Sadly, this Marchesa Notte dress is one of them. It would make a great work dress, but I’d be concerned about how delicate it is and any kind of snagging that might happen.

What I was most concerned about with this dress was the open sleeves. I’m not a huge fan of cold shoulders and these sleeves are reminisce of that. However, I ended up really liking them. It was a nice touch to make this dress feel more fall without suffocating the wearer. Of course, I didn’t like every angle of the sleeve that we got pictures of so I’m only showing the best photos off.
