I’ve been leading up to this DIY since my Minnie Mouse Shoes post. With my leftover mickey ears I created these International Flower & Garden Festival flower Mickey ears! There are plenty of flower Mickey ears on the market, but I felt that I had to at least try and make my own pair since I do have two bow-less pairs of ears laying around. (Totally worth the Minnie Mouse shoes though). As you can imagine, this DIY doesn’t take too much instruction, just glue the flowers on the Mickey ears. However, I do have some tips for gathering supplies and having an interchangeable bow!
Flower Heads to Glue on Mickey Ears
Honestly, I’ve been trying to do this project for about a month now and haven’t gotten to it because I couldn’t find flowers to glue on my ears. There was a time I saw buckets of flower tops at Michael’s but couldn’t find any when I went. Joann Fabric, Hobby Lobby, just about every craft store I could think of didn’t have any or only sold a two pack. I turned to the internet but found that I had no clue how to describe what I was looking for! Flower top? Stemless flower? Ultimately I was led to use the search term “flower head” on Amazon. There are so many options, and they come in bulk. So if you’re shopping to do your own DIY, I’d go to Amazon and see what you can find. Here’s just three options that I love (including the ones I purchased).
Interchangeable Bow for Minnie Ears
Don’t you love those Mickey Ears that have interchangeable bows? I sure do, it makes it so easy to match your ears with whatever you’re wearing. Many interchangeable bows I’ve seen utilize velcro. Velcro is in fact a magical invention, but not what I used in this case. I used a normal barrette styled hair clip for my ears. You heard that right, a barrette hair clip. I have two flowers hidden by the bow size I chose, and they are the perfect place to clip on my bow. You attach it to those little hidden flowers and then all it takes is a little bit of adjusting so it’s on straight. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind for how I would attach the bow, but I sure am glad it worked out.
Because I just love Minnie Ears and Disney, I’ll probably still end up getting the headband from this years Flower & Garden Festival and just add it to my collection. They’re just too cute to not get and are a great color to wear with just about everything!
