Wedding Guest Fall Dresses

I’m attending a wedding later this month up in Virginia and have been struggling to dress shop for it. Obviously, you don’t want to wear white like the bride but then it’s also fall so typical pastels and summer colors don’t really fit either. Also, because it’s in Virginia, it’ll be a bit on the chilly side. The good news is, I’ve bought 3 potential options for the wedding. Since I had such a hard time coming up with anything to begin with I thought I would share my tips for wedding guest fall dress shopping.

Trends I’m Loving for Fall Guest Wedding Dresses

  1. Fall Colors: Navy, Crimson, and Mauve are some of my favorites for guest wedding dresses this fall. They are bold but subtle and they certainly won’t compete with the Bride!
  2. Long Sleeves: I don’t always love long sleeves on dresses but I’m finding them very in this “formal fall” season. I’m especially loving sleeves with lace or applique detailing on them. They are so elegant and perfect for a wedding.
  3. Florals: Don’t be afraid of florals just because it’s fall! Do you think the wedding will lack all flowers just because it’s in the fall? Probably not. As long as the floral is combined with a fall color I think that floral prints for fall wedding dresses works wonderfully. In fact, all three dresses that I ended up purchasing are floral.
  4. Jumpsuits: So maybe I don’t own a jumpsuit but I want to so bad! They are so cute for fall and will give you the added bonus of keeping your legs warm (and you don’t have to shave!)

Tips for Staying in your Price Range

  1. Shop Secondhand: Many before you have shopped and splurged on a dress for a single occasion, take advantage of it! Stores like Style Encore and sites like Ebay are a great way to score elegant dresses perfect for a fall wedding. And of course there is always my favorite resale app Poshmark (Use code DANDYDANIELLE when you sign up to get a free $5 in Posh Credits!)
  2. Rent the Runway: I’ve never used it personally but I have always wanted to! The problem is I like to own my clothes (like I like to own my books). I did look into it for this occasion though, I just couldn’t find anything that jumped out at me. For a full rundown of Rent the Runway check out one of my favorites, Nikki Hall – The Fashionable Accountant’s post on it.
  3. Splurge: Especially if you are attending multiple weddings in the fall it’s ok to splurge. Obviously everyone’s definition of “splurging” is different but the way I see it is, if I spend the money on one dress that I wear to 3 weddings, it basically paid for itself!

While I wanted to buy about a million dresses for this wedding I refrained. But I did want to share some of my favorites for fall weddings, as well as some jumpsuits and accessories! I hope you guys love these as much as I do! No promises that I won’t buy some more of these “just because”.

Check out the three dresses I did end up buying and let me know which one you think I should wear in the comments!
