4 Ways to Rock Sorority Letter Attire

I’m putting this out there for all to know (and I’m sure many of you already do) but, I was in a sorority in college. I joined my senior year. This was unfortunate because I was so busy with thesis artwork that comes with being a senior art student, that I didn’t get to be as active in the sorority as I would have liked. (This is where I have a quick side pitch: If at any point in your college career being in a sorority crosses your mind, I would highly recommend giving it a chance. Even if “sorority life” disgust you). There are so many reason I am grateful for joining a sorority, even with such limited time. But that’s not what this post is about. This post boils down to how to rock letter attire (or a t-shirt) in ways not everyone normally thinks to wear them.

Proper Letter Attire

Proper letter attire I’m sure means many different things to different sororities. For us, proper letter attire includes most everything, and many of my sisters often opt for jeans to wear with letters. I personally can’t stand jeans (especially if they aren’t the ones I’ve worn for 10 years of my life because they just aren’t comfortable!) Jeans look great, jeans do not feel great to me. If you have a comfy nice pair of jeans, I envy you, I live to find that. One outfit incorporates jeans, but mind you, I hated every second of wearing them and they took forever to take off. Most of these combinations end up being a little dressy but hey, who cares. You should wear what you like, be it jeans, shorts, or a skirt. I hope y’all enjoy these looks (and some of the fun explanations of how I came up with them!)

First and foremost, let’s get these dreaded jeans out of the way! Like I said, I like wearing my 10 year old jeans that are completely broken in, faded, and probably have multiple holes that I don’t know about. These are not those jeans. Black jeans are an instant classic though and really leave an impression (I mean that literally, not figuratively, the indents on my skin are unreal). But I suppose I could suffocate for an hour or two at an event or chapter and not completely lose my mind. The nice thing about jeans is looking forward to taking them off (we can at least all agree with that, right? No pants!)

This next outfit was always my go to for letter attire when it was warm. These are one of my first pairs of letters that I received from my big and I honestly geeked when I saw how perfectly they matched one of my favorite skirts. Can you say match made in heaven?! (Also when I said “when it was warm” I really meant: Chapters in 5 minutes, I don’t want to wear jeans, it’s only 40 degrees, time for this dynamic duo).

Professional

So funny thing about this outfit…I wasn’t at all planning on wearing a pencil skirt to the event I was going to. In fact, I had JEANS packed to change into. I had a presentation for my thesis work that was before the event for sorority. The presentation ran a little over and I only had time to do a quick shirt swap. While the skirt wasn’t the most comfortable thing to sit in for an hour, jeans wouldn’t have been much better. I ended up really loving this outfit though, which is why I’m recreating it for you today. Besides, all my sisters said I looked hot in it and who doesn’t want to hear that?

Sorority Unities

Last but not least, my unities (no not undies! Get your head out of the gutter people). Hands down, these are my favorite letters. Green’s my favorite color and gold, duh. Not to mention they go perfectly with these Lilly Pulitzer shorts. What more could you ask for?

Whether you’re a part of Greek life or not, there’s so many ways to wear a simple t-shirt. I hope you find a combo you love and that’s comfortable (even if that means, you’re wearing jeans!) I’ll end this post as I would to any sisTAU. TLAM. ✌🏼

Also, some of my favorite places to get custom letters are on Etsy, Jenna Benna and Designer Greek (As a side note, I learned to sew my own letters and 1. It was so much cheaper and 2. You can make so many amazing custom shirts. I made both letters that were on pink shirts. If you ever get the chance to learn the skill, I’d take the opportunity).
